What Are Some Things You Can Do To Save Your Marriage?

November 8, 2022

Are you looking for ways to save your marriage? When your relationship stops being a priority, you probably have begun to realize you need to work at it. Maybe your relationship is facing a possible divorce. Whatever it is, you may be looking for ways to prevent divorce and revive your marriage. Here’s how:

Ways to Save Your Marriage

Write Everything Down

Writing everything down on paper helps you realize what the actual problem is in your relationship. Write down the things that initially attracted you to your spouse.

Write down where you’d like to see your relationship go and the things that led to the problems you are facing now. While this may not help you have the relationship you had before, it’s a good start to a new relationship.

Look Within Yourself

You shouldn’t expect your partner to meet your every need. Sometimes you have to look within yourself and find what makes you happy. Ask yourself “Why do I rely on my partner to make me happy?”

By asking yourself a variety of questions, it may help you sort through these issues and help you find your own happiness outside your partner.

Never Assume

It is easy to think you know your partner just because you have been together for a long time. But you should avoid assuming you know what your partner is always thinking and the reasons behind their actions.

This can cause tension and create unnecessary arguments when, in reality, it may have been meant very innocently. If you are ever unsure of something, don’t be afraid to ask your partner for clarity. Communication is everything.

Go Out Once a Week

Partners need to spend quality time together. Everyone has busy lives, with work, kids, etc. Set time apart for the two of you to go out on a date at least once a week.

Make time to go out more and spend quality time together. Go out for a drink, or to the movies, or choose a unique activity so you can build intimacy.

Show Affection

Affection doesn’t always have to be about sex or lead up to sex. Affection can be kissing, hugging, holding hands, and much more.

There are simple ways you can show affection to help the two of you bond more. This can restore the intimacy between you two.

Look to the Future

When you first started dating your partner, you obviously shared some dreams and values for the future. Now is the time to go over those dreams and values again with your partner. Communicate with one another about how you will work together and support each other.

Show Gratitude

Show how much you are thankful and appreciative of your partner. Don’t just act, but show them you can’t get enough of their presence. This can begin with letting them know you are grateful for them.

When you are apart, send them a message letting them know you can’t wait until they get home from work. These are little things that can build into full-blown romances.

If you have tried these methods and still have yet to revive your marriage, consider a marriage & family therapy program.
